Inspiration
When we started thinking about tackling a finance solution, we talked about the struggles we’ve had and what tools we wish existed. Then we did some web scraping and research and realized we weren’t alone. There’s a whole group of people who genuinely want to save and build better financial habits, but real life makes that hard. The typical “just open a Roth IRA and wait 40 years” advice doesn’t feel realistic when you’re trying to pay rent, handle surprise bills, and still have a life. That’s what led us to come up with Flowwise: a concept that reimagines financial tools to actually meet people where they are.
What it does
In our concept, Flowwise aggregates your data into a typical budgeting and financial management app, but then uses AI to go a step further. It provides recommendations for unexpected payments or situations that pull you away from your savings goals, and offers a way to automatically redirect your finances to stay on track. Flowwise is built to be both insightful and proactive, helping users not just understand their spending but actively improve it.
How we built it
This was our first hackathon, and we wanted to challenge ourselves to see how far we could go with AI-powered development tools. Using Lovable, we went from concept to a working prototype in record time just by describing what we wanted in natural language. That experience inspired us to explore how AI is lowering the barrier to entry for both product development and financial education.
Challenges we ran into
Like most projects built with AI and no-code tools, we hit a few bumps. If your prompt isn’t super specific, things can get messy under the hood pretty quickly. We also learned that backend development with APIs can be tricky, especially when trying to connect everything smoothly. The workshops from OneEthos and MLH demonstrated the power of agentic AI and beautiful design, and gave us key takeaways that we incorporated into our concept to make Flowwise more practical and finance-ready.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re really proud of how much we accomplished in just 36 hours. As a small team of three at our first hackathon, seeing our concept come to life at the click of a button felt incredible. From late-night brainstorming sessions to watching our ideas take shape in real time, it was a reminder of how powerful creativity and teamwork can be. Even though Flowwise is still a concept, the experience showed us what’s possible when we combine imagination with AI.
What we learned
We learned just how powerful AI-assisted development can be for turning ideas into prototypes fast. We also learned to think about user experience from the very start — and how to stay calm and adaptable when things inevitably break. More than anything, we learned that curiosity and teamwork can take you further than you expect, even with limited experience
What's next for Flowwise
We want to keep building, not just Flowwise but more tools and resources that make AI and finance feel less overwhelming. Too often, projects are filled with jargon, endless API keys, and complicated code. We want to change that by creating simpler, beginner-friendly repos that anyone can learn from or build on.
