FlowState: AI-Powered Desktop Project Assistant

💡 Inspiration

FlowState was born from our own frustration.

We were two developers working on our own separate projects—ambitious apps that we were passionate about. But we kept hitting the same wall: we were spending more time managing our projects than actually building them.

The Problem We Lived

Picture this: You're deep in code, finally in the zone, when you realize:

• "Wait, where did I leave off yesterday?"
• "Which branch was I working on?"
• "What was I supposed to build next?"
• "Why do I have 15 browser tabs open just to remember my project structure?"

We'd start our day by:

1. Opening 5+ different tools (IDE, terminal, browser, GitHub, notes app)
2. Spending 20 minutes remembering where we were
3. Context-switching between tools constantly
4. Losing our flow state repeatedly

We realized we were both struggling with the same problem: project management was killing our productivity.

The "Aha!" Moment

One day, after yet another frustrating debugging session where we'd lost track of what we were even trying to fix, we asked ourselves:

"What if there was a tool that could understand our projects the way we do? Something that could track everything, remind us of context, and help us stay focused—without adding MORE complexity?"

We looked at existing project management tools:

• Jira/Linear: Too heavyweight, built for teams, not solo developers
• GitHub Projects: Great for code, but doesn't help with workflow
• Todo apps: Too simple, don't understand code structure
• IDEs: Powerful, but limited to one project at a time

None of them solved OUR problem: managing multiple personal projects without losing our minds.

That's when we decided: If this tool doesn't exist, we need to build it ourselves.

Our Vision

We wanted to build something that:

• Understands your code without you explaining it
• Remembers your context so you don't have to
• Launches your tools in one click
• Gives you insights without overwhelming you
• Respects your privacy because these are YOUR projects
• Uses AI responsibly to help, not replace, your thinking

FlowState became our answer to the question: "How can we help developers starting with ourselves build better apps by making project management invisible?"
