Inspiration

The idea for this project came two years ago when I was studying for a summer chemistry course, and I wanted to understand the content rather than just remember it. I'm a visual learner, so I'd draw pre-req flowcharts to see how concepts connect, and to have the knowledge path from, say, atoms → electron configurations, in a single page. Then I'd send those drawings to friends as a part of our shared notes, and they found them helpful which motivated me to make them better. So glad a Shipaton ad found me... here we are.

About the app

Flowsophy maps the prerequisite knowledge you need to understand any subject. Just type a topic to create a Flowmap that guides you through learning concepts while filling any gaps. You can also create Flowmaps from documents and YouTube videos. Write notes for each concept, read their related Wikipedia articles in-app and save passages, chat with The Guide for clarifications, and share your Flowmaps with family and friends through links, or publish them on your profile to share with the Flowsophy community.

How it was built

I built Flowsophy on a Macbook Neo, with development tools open on a Firebox browser (Supabase, Revenuecat, Vercel, etc), and Claude Code pretty much perpetually running on the terminal. I used a simulator on Xcode and an iPhone 14 for TestFlight. My Github has literally never been this green.

Challenges

Since this is my first hackathon and shipped project, I ran into a lot of unexpected challenges. Localhost no more... API key management was especially tricky at the start, and I needed to generate fresh keys constantly, whether it was because I pasted and saved a secret with an extra space or accidentally sent it to an LLM. I'm anticipating new challenges when it comes to distribution, I'm looking forward to it.

What I'm proud of

I mean I still can't believe my app is on the App Store! I'm proud of that, and also of how the social features came along for Flowsophy. Everyone can share their knowledge and study notes with the world.

What I learned

I learned that optimism + your very best efforts = magic. I also learned that keeping a context-rich codebase makes for a much (much) smoother dev experience. We love .md! It almost felt like I was curating every detail of a home the more time I spent inside the project.

What's next

What's next for Flowsophy? I have a vision of adding collaborative Flowmaps, and also seeing this app be a staple in schools. Stay tuned! `
