Inspiration
We were inspired by how people spend a lot of time planning and managing repetitive tasks manually. Most automation tools require users to define every step, so we wanted to create a system where users can simply describe their goal and let AI figure out the required steps. This idea led us to create FlowPilot AI.
What it does
FlowPilot AI is an AI-powered automation assistant that converts a user's goal into an organized workflow. For example, instead of creating multiple tasks and reminders manually, a user can simply say, “I have a hackathon next Friday. Get me ready.” FlowPilot understands the request, breaks it into smaller tasks, organizes them, tracks progress, and adapts the workflow when things change.
How we built it
We built FlowPilot around an AI agent that understands natural-language requests and converts them into structured workflows. The system follows a process of understanding the user's goal, planning the required tasks, executing them, tracking progress, and adapting when necessary. We also included user confirmation for important actions to keep the automation safe and user-controlled.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was deciding how much control the AI should have. Too much user involvement reduces automation, while giving the AI complete control can lead to unwanted actions. We also had to make the workflow flexible enough to handle delayed, completed, or changed tasks instead of following a fixed sequence.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a system that focuses on goal-based automation rather than simple rule-based automation. Users don't need to explain every individual step. They can describe what they want to achieve, and FlowPilot helps turn that goal into an actionable workflow.
What we learned
We learned that effective AI automation is more than just generating responses. An AI agent needs to understand context, plan tasks, maintain workflow state, handle changes, and know when to ask for user confirmation. We also learned how powerful automation can be when it focuses on the user's goal instead of individual commands.
What's next for FlowPilot AI
Our next goal is to make FlowPilot capable of handling more complex real-world workflows and connecting with more services. We want to improve its ability to understand long-term goals, detect problems, recover from failures, and automatically adapt workflows based on the user's progress.
