Flower City School Improvements

  This is the map of Brampton, the dots are schools and the colour represents the average rating (according to the legend on the right)

Inspiration

We wanted to help raise awareness for the segregation of different communities in Brampton

What it does

• It uses analyzes Google reviews and determines legitimacy through NLP and finally outputs the info onto a map

How we built it

• By running tests through jupyter notebook and using an API to gather requests directly from Google reviews

Challenges we ran into

• Displaying the heatmap correctly, filtering out invalid responses, obtaining an accurate NLP api

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Finally choosing an appropriate map layout, adding the information onto the Excel file as a database, bringing everything together as a final product

What we learned

• How to work with APIs, display data on graphs using plotly, basic NLP

What's next for Flower City School Improvements

• Making an interactive website, using better NLP to provide more accurate data as well as address prominent issues using keywords
