Inspiration
One of the biggest fears that people who get periods have is not having a menstrual product on hand when their period randomly starts. Not all public restrooms provide accessible products and it might be awkward asking a stranger for a product. Our app, Flow, was designed to help period havers with these menstrual emergencies, since not everything goes with your flow.
What it does
Flow allows users to create a profile and request menstrual products from available doners near them. They can also see requests of people near them, and provide products as needed.
How we built it
We used Swift as the primary programming language for our iOS app and XCode as our IDE.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest part would probably be learning how to use swift and downloading XCode -- which took 5 hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We had never used Swift before, nor had we ever developed an iOS app, and we are proud that we were able to create a product after self-teaching most of the tools we used.
What we learned
First off we learned how to use new tools: swift and XCode to develop iOS apps. We also had to do extensive research to debug our issues and search for methods of making our app more comprehensive to the public.
What's next for Flow
We did not have time to during our short period of working time, but we plan on taking this project beyond this hackathon. We want to utilize Firebase to be able to track logins from different users, implement a map for specific location and GPS tracking, and overall just make Flow more user-friendly (and aesthetically pleasing).
