Flourish is an app that reminds you to water and fertilizer your houseplants. It also identifies plants and gives information about them from photographs.

Inspiration

As someone who always forgets to water my houseplants at home, I need a simple and easy-to-use App that provides me with information about the plants and reminds me to water my plants according to the plant's characteristics! The app's name is Flourish because it's the meaning of growing healthily and vigorously.

What it does

Manually enter your plant into the app or simply take a photograph of your plant, the app will try its best to recognize it! Not quite sure if the plant prefers bright, medium or low light? Our app will provide a brief description and care instructions with their water and light preference once it recognizes the species from photographs or manually searches for information about plants using the search tab! You can set up a reminder in the duration of time to water and fertilize your plant. Each day, you will receive a list of plants to water and fertilize for that day and the week in case you have any travel plans such that you won't forget to water the plants before you leave!

How we built it

We built our project using React Native and a public API plant.id that identifies plant species from photographs. (https://plant.id/)

Challenges we ran into

Since our team only had some experiences with React Native and we had never use API before. We encountered a lot of challenges when connecting to the API and implementing the back-end, so we haven't fully implemented the back-end storage and we haven't connected to the API successfully.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment that we're proud of is that we built an app in less than 20 hours! Even though it's not perfect, but we've gained a lot from this wonderful experience.

What's next for Flourish

The next step for Flourish is to continue to work on and professionalize all the functionalities. We would like to add new functionalities to our app to turn it into a social platform, such as adding blogging and following user functionalities.
