Inspiration
Who does not love to receive uplifting encouragement or a compliment?? That is what Flourish would provide, a way for users to have a safe space to discuss everyday areas of their lives that they could use encouragement in, whether that is relationships, personal growth, or even with school. This application will provide the assurance to our users that they are not alone in their situation and there will always be a helping hand to guide them, it's just a compliment away! 🌸
What it does
So a user can log in and have the option to get assistance or guidance in the following areas/channels: Relationships, Personal Growth, School, and Work. Based on the option they choose a chat would pop up and the user can communicate with other users about a situation they may be going through regarding the topic. For example, one of our users Rebecca logs in and she wants help on a really hard calculus problem, Davis who happens to be in the School channel can help her with that and can provide encouragement for her to push through the problem she is stuck on.
How we built it
We used the following applications to build our site: -Figma- for UX/UI Development and User Flow -HTML -Python -CSS
Challenges we ran into
We can definitely understand how an app implementation like this is not a walk in the park so setting up the routes on the backend and time management were areas that we ran into developing our project. Also, the correlation between front-end and back-end was a bit tricky to navigate since our team had two people on UI/UX development and 2 on Back-End/Front-End, so it was hard to navigate the starting layer to the building the site.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the layout and the basic functionalities we were able to implement in our time of development.
What we learned
How potentially create a chat function for an application and use Figma to sketch the user flow and design of the application. Also, learning languages like REACT and Node could help us take our website to a further step in development in the future.
What's next for Flourish
Short term: We hope to be able to work on our channel feature more and hopefully find a way to implement applications like Twilio for the chat feature. Also, we hope to reconfigure the look more closely to our Figma layout as well. Long term: Develop a points and rewards system. People could earn points for every conversation that they have. These points could then be used to unlock different levels of rewards that centre around mental health and wellness products helpful to university students.
