Inspiration
The "Florida Man" meme celebrates real, bizarre news headlines that could only happen in Florida. I wanted to bring these actual stories to life in a music video that captured their absurd energy.
How I built it
The breakthrough was ElevenLabs Music generating an authentic 90s hip-hop comedy track that nailed the Beastie Boys meets gangsta rap vibe I wanted. Once I had that song with its storytelling lyrics, everything else fell into place with image prompting and Wan 2.2 first/last frame motion. I was finally able to create the Florida Man tribute I'd imagined.
- Audio: ElevenLabs Music created the 90s hip-hop track
- Images: 100+ detailed prompts generated with Seedream 4.0 (Freepik)
- Video: Animated locally on RTX 5090 using Wan 2.2 in ComfyUI (+ using ComfyCloud)
- Editing: Topaz Video AI and DaVinci Resolve
Challenges
- Maintaining character consistency across 100+ shots required writing exhaustive descriptions (60+ words) for every single prompt - same mullet, same tank top, same duct-taped flip-flops.
- Getting specific absurd actions right (alligator opening beer, see-through plastic bag disguise) took many iterations with Wan 2.2 first/last frame prompting.
- It did take about 20 tries to get the song just how I wanted it to sound with lyrics that matched the vibe/no words missing.
Accomplishments
- Created 100+ self-contained prompts that maintained character consistency across wildly different scenarios - from trailer parks to courtrooms to swamp docks
- Successfully translated real Florida Man headlines into visual storytelling that's both absurd and authentic
- Built an entirely local video generation pipeline on consumer hardware (RTX 5090) that produced studio-quality results (w/Topaz + DaVinci for post production)
- Verified and cited actual news sources for nearly every scene, proving that truth really is stranger than fiction
- Achieved a great balance of comedy and realism - making people laugh while showing these stories actually happened
What I learned
- Character consistency in AI generation requires exhaustive prompting - every detail matters, every time
- AI video tools have matured to the point where solo creators can produce content that would have required entire production teams just two years ago
- The importance of self-contained prompts: AI models have no memory between generations, so every prompt must describe everything from scratch
- Seedream 4.0's ability to intelligently fill whitespace and upscale makes it invaluable for preparing images for video generation
- ElevenLabs Music can generate genre-specific tracks that feel authentic enough to build an entire project around
- Sometimes the best creative projects come from celebrating the ridiculous aspects of reality rather than inventing fiction
