Inspiration

The loss of biodiversity is an important issue in today's world as animal habitats are getting destroyed and trees are being cut down. In fact, wildlife populations have declined by an average of 69% in the past 50 years. This means that between 10,000 and 100,000 species are becoming extinct each year. This inspired us to create FloraFauna, a web app that functions like a travel guide to find for nature preserves or sanctuaries.

What it does

FloraFauna is a web platform that finds nature preserves and sanctuaries, which are filtered based on location, critical factor(means current situation on population or scarcity), etc. For fun, users can add filter based on their favorite animal(s) as well. After selecting preserve, they can do three things sponsor(donate), join us and share (customize email).

How we built it

  • Frontend: React JS, Tailwind CSS
  • Backend:
  • User auth: Google Firebase

Challenges we ran into

  • Due to the difference in the time zone it was a bit difficult to collaborate with other developers in the team but we managed to get the project done in time. Implementation of Coil and DeSo was a bit difficult as were using them for the first time.
  • Coming up with a feasible idea that could be implemented within the given time frame.
  • Completing the project in the given time frame.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Helping each other out and working together as a team
  • Completing the project in the given time frame despite schedule conflicts
  • Using the minimalistic design, which makes the website easy to use

What we learned

  • Efficient collaboration with other developers
  • How to build a functional application

What's next for FloraFauna

  • Building a mobile app for the project.
  • Adding more features
  • Increasing user optimization by utilizing ML and AI
