About me
Hi, my name is Ben. I was born and raised in Thailand. I'm a software developer and also a certified exercise instructor.
Inspiration
I’ve started noticing my parents, relatives, and friends experiencing problems like losing control when they have an urge to go to the toilet, or leakage when coughing or sneezing. This actually comes from weak pelvic floor muscles.
After speaking with a doctor, I learned that the best way to address this is through targeted exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor. So, I decided to combine my knowledge as an exercise instructor with my skills as a software developer to create FloorFit, an app designed to train the pelvic floor muscles.
🚀 What it does
I built FloorFit to help you train your pelvic floor muscles in three steps:
🧪 Step 1: Test
I created an in-app mobility test that checks poses usually related to pelvic area strength. This helps determine the risks you might be facing.
🛠️ Step 2: Fix
I provide you with a 21-day exercise plan designed to target, relieve, and strengthen the right muscles.
📈 Step 3: Measure & Improve
I give you a screen to track your progress and see how many exercises you’ve done each day.
I also suggest retaking the mobility test to check improvements.
🌍 FloorFit now supports 8 languages: Thai, English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
⏳ After 21 days, you’ll have better control of the muscles in the pelvic area.
💡 Why it's different
🎞️ Customizable animations
The follow-along exercise isn’t just a video—it’s a highly customizable animation.
The length can be adjusted based on your mobility level, and the speed can be changed based on user preference.
🎨 Medical-grade design
The guided exercise animations are handcrafted by a designer who graduated in medical graphics, supervised by my physiotherapist friends.
🎧 Thoughtful voice guidance
The voice guidance is designed with my exercise instructor knowledge.
Often in exercise you need to twist your body and look away from the screen, so the voice instructions are crafted with care to guide you even when you can’t see the screen.
🛠️ How I built it
✏️ Step 1: Design
I started by designing the poses necessary to build pelvic floor strength.
I also created exercise instructions that can be followed easily, using my background as an exercise instructor.
Then I designed the UX for a 21-day plan that allows users to follow step by step.
💻 Step 2: Tech stack
I used Flutter as my main tech stack, so the app works on both Android and iOS.
💳 Step 3: Payments
I integrated RevenueCat to manage subscriptions on Google Play and the App Store.
🔧 Step 4: Backend
I used Firebase as the backbone for notifications, analytics, and database.
🚢 Step 5: Launch
I first published on the App Store, then on the Play Store, and now I’m focusing on building a measure and learn cycle.
⚡ Challenges I ran into
🔄 Retention
During testing, retention was tough.
Changing user behavior is always hard, so I had to optimize the experience to be as sticky as possible.
💸 Paywall
Some users dropped off immediately when they saw the paywall—even though there was a free trial.
To fix this, I made the first exercise free so everyone could try the app without starting a trial.
🏆 Accomplishments I’m proud of
- 👥 Since launch in late August, FloorFit has gained more than 2,136 users.
- 💵 It has made $250 so far.
- ⭐️ 4.7 rating from 36 ratings
- 🌱 It contributes to a better life. Some users come from low-income countries.
One user emailed me asking for an offline mode since internet access is limited there.
From GA data, many users from the low-income regions got the app during the free giveaway campaign.
📚 What I learned
1️⃣ Launching is the start
Launching is not the finish line. No matter how great the product is, if no one sees it, it’s useless.
2️⃣ Research first
Doing keyword and market research before building saves a lot on marketing costs.
3️⃣ Growth hacks matter
If you don’t have an ad budget but want people to try your app, go to Reddit and run an app giveaway for a short period.
You’ll gather feedback and improve the app quickly.
🔮 What's next for FloorFit: Pelvic Pilates
- 📊 Watch the stats. Improve paywall viewing rate. Improve store-to-download conversion.
Try to hit 100 daily downloads with organic ASO. - 🎯 Once the paywall viewing rate hits 80–90%, I might run some search ads.
- 💡 Ultimately, I’d love to reach $500 MRR by the end of the year.
