Rivers across the US are measured constantly, but most of that data never becomes a forecast. Of the 10,460 river gauges on NOAA's (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administrations) list, only 22% get a routine official forecast. On top of that, the path from raw gauge data to a forecast is opaque to the public. Which brings us to why we created FloodWatch! It’s a tool for people who want to better prepare for rainy weather and flooding in their area. It shows how real public data is collected and turned into a prediction, and it puts that prediction next to the official forecast so anyone can check it. We learned how to work with ML data, and as first time hackers, a lot about Full Stack development! We hope this project will be of interest and of use to those who give it a try!
