Inspiration
Floods are one of the most common natural disasters in many parts of India. Every year, people lose homes, resources, and even lives due to lack of timely information and preparedness. We wanted to create a solution that helps people stay safe by providing early warnings and guidance during floods.
What it does
Our project, FloodGuard, is a smart system that provides real-time flood alerts and safety instructions. It helps users:
- Get early warnings about flood risks
- Find safe routes and nearby shelters
- Access emergency contacts quickly
- Learn safety tips before and during floods
How we built it
We built this project using simple and accessible technologies. The system collects weather and location data, processes it, and sends alerts to users through a user-friendly interface.
Challenges we ran into
- Finding reliable flood-related data
- Designing a simple and clear interface
- Managing time during the hackathon
What we learned
- Basics of building a real-world project
- Importance of teamwork and planning
- How technology can help solve real-life problems
What's next for FloodGuard
We plan to improve accuracy, add live maps, and include more features like rescue request systems and offline alerts.
