Inspiration
We live in an area where car theft is one of the most common problems, and we thought it was a good idea to be able to solve one of the everyday problems.
What it does
FloodGuard is a detection system that monitors incoming packets from the attacking system. So when a hacker is trying to get into the car, FloodGuard identifies this different frequency, releases numerous packets, and tricks the thieves from getting into the car, and then causes a kill switch on the car.
How we built it
We used Linux, Ubuntu, and Python to simulate a scenario on how the process would work.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge that kept coming up was our IP addresses not linking with each other's laptops, so we tried to simulate the program on one laptop, making it a safer and more stable example of an everyday situation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a system that could be used in a real-world scenario and something that could be looked into as it gets more developed.
What we learned
We gained knowledge on cybersecurity and what a CAN system is. And we also built a software with two platforms together (Windows and Ubuntu).
What's next for FloodGuard
The next step for FloodGuard would be simulating the same program on a Raspberry Pi with a CAN system to fully simulate on a physical vehicle network.
