Inspiration
We did some research and found the PetaJakarta.org project, which we took inspiration from, scoped to the GTA and added some features to it (also turned it into an app).
What it does
Our design is an app that crowdsources data about floods in the GTA by allowing verified users to submit real-time information about floods in their area. We collect data such as location, date, duration, height, damages done, and more possible factors, which is stored on a database that can be accessed and used for research purposes.
How we built it
We used Figma to design our app, and python to implement it.
Challenges we ran into
While we had planned a larger scale project involving APIs, databases, and ai features, our current skillset and time constraints limited us to just using python to create a demo app. In addition, the planning process introduced the challenge of coming up with an original and useful idea, which we overcame by focusing on one theme (Natural Disaster Tech), and brainstorming an idea for this theme.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to successfully complete our app demo and learned how to implement new features. We gained skills that we will be able to use in future projects.
What we learned
How to use Github, Figma, and programming IDEs. How to use an API that allowed us to find a user's current location.
What's next for Flood Feedback
Implementing more features once we learn new skills.
