Inspiration
My first motivation is technical. I hate relying on too many unnecessary dependencies. That’s why I created this program using only vanilla JS, HTML, and JSDoc, without any framework except Tailwind CSS.
The second motivation stems from my inner creativity, which has been boosted by various AI tools, including Amazon Q. From this perspective, I feel like a team leader, driven by my dream to build something unique. I also want to thank everyone who inspired me in this project. Hopefully, I’ll finish the credits page by the end of the program.
What it does
This project achieves multiple goals. It’s a game, a new JSX library with a Proxy signal that rivals React-based setups, and a developer environment. The developer tools include a markdown-view WebComponent and editor. Thanks to DynamoDB, the environment is ultra-lightweight yet highly effective. Additionally, I created a simple but refined sprite editor.
How we built it
I used a Story-Driven Development process, starting with the visuals and the storyline of the Flogons' world. The main game design focuses on a simple yet challenging card game with great potential for future releases. This is just the beginning.
From a technical perspective, the markdown editor is a classic HTML page with embedded JavaScript, requiring no compilation to run. However, for a wider audience, a minimal PNPM and Vite build setup would be beneficial. Instead of TypeScript, I used JSDoc, which provides many of the same advantages without its drawbacks.
Challenges we ran into
At one point, I realized that querySelector was too slow for development. I revived an old, forgotten JS framework (about 150 lines of code) to handle JSX, significantly speeding up development.
With MidJourney, I created a plethora of images—sometimes too many to keep up with the pace of development. However, JavaScript, being a flexible and creative language, allowed me to maintain my workflow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Here’s a summary of the build process:
dist/assets/mine-txzynpoG.js 3.08 kB │ gzip: 1.33 kB
dist/assets/marker-CDmeMeHZ.js 3.08 kB │ gzip: 1.43 kB
dist/assets/throw-CtACwOyr.js 7.86 kB │ gzip: 2.68 kB
dist/assets/deal-ptFW1zND.js 10.26 kB │ gzip: 3.93 kB

What we learned
I couldn’t have imagined how much I would learn during this amazing journey of development. For instance, I had never worked with DynamoDB before this project.
What's next for Flogon Galaxy: First Contact
At this stage, the main part of the story remains untold. I plan to continue developing the narrative. Additionally, I’m considering creating a fast and lightweight markdown-first code editor. You can test the project by building the code yourself.
