All of us must have an experience of traveling in buses. But on questioning hows the experience - most of the answers are chaotic, time consuming and stressful. On a busy day, when we are running late opting for bus as a mode of transportation has become the worst nightmare. Inspiration: Every day in India, millions of people rely on buses as their primary mode of transport. Yet, chaotic lane discipline, frequent delays, and unpredictable traffic conditions make bus travel stressful and unreliable.

What inspired us was a simple observation: Buses often weave between lanes slowing traffic for everyone. Passengers lose 15–30% extra travel time daily. Governments lack real-time enforcement tools to ensure discipline. We asked ourselves: What if buses could follow discipline automatically, with accountability, and cities could back it with data? That was the seed of Flobu.

Flobu tackles the chaos of bus delaning by ensuring lane discipline through smart, real-time enforcement and feedback. Using GPS-based geofencing, the app alerts drivers when they leave bus lanes unnecessarily and escalates repeated violations to depots for corrective action (3-step escalation system). This makes buses stop only at proper bays, improving both safety and reliability for passengers. Flobu also integrates with roadside AI cameras and traffic systems to detect lane encroachments by cars/bikes(preventing them from entering into the designated bus-lanes by charging fines/chalan), enabling quick enforcement and alerts to both drivers and commuters. For passengers, this translates into faster, more predictable journeys, safer boarding, less waiting time, and restored trust in bus services. At the system level, Flobu unlocks higher bus speeds, smoother traffic flow, and better return on government investment in public transport.

What We Learned: While researching, we uncovered a few key insights: Public Transport Economics: Lane discipline improves corridor efficiency. If average travel time per commuter is T, reducing it by Delta T saves: Total time saved=N×ΔT where N is the number of daily commuters. Even a 10-minute saving across 1 million commuters = 10 million minutes saved daily. GovTech Gaps: Existing solutions (e.g., GPS tracking, CCTV) don’t integrate enforcement + analytics + public reliability in one stack. Human Behavior: Drivers respond better when accountability is paired with incentives (bonus points, recognition) and not just penalties.

How We Built It: We used a modular, data-driven approach: Data Layer (Granite + IBM Toolkits): Collected and preprocessed live bus GPS data + roadside camera feeds. Built lane adherence geofencing models. AI Agents (Agent Development Kit - ADK): Agents monitor lane adherence in real time. Automated violation detection enforcement system. Driver feedback loop for positive reinforcement. Application Layer (Mobile + Dashboard): Passenger app shows reliable ETAs & bus positioning. Traffic Police dashboard real-time violations + analytics. STU operator panel cost, delays, fleet performance.

Challenges We Faced: Data Quality Issues: GPS drift and missing camera frames. Solved with filtering + interpolation models. Government Onboarding: Enforcement systems require policy alignment. Approach: pilot projects + measurable KPIs to prove value. Scalability: Cities differ in road infra, density, and fleet size. Designed Flobu to be configurable & modular. User Adoption: Drivers feared only punitive actions. Added gamification & incentive design to encourage compliance.

Key Takeaway: Flobu isn’t just a tech product — it’s an urban efficiency enabler. It transforms chaotic bus systems into disciplined, reliable, and safe public transport. With AI-powered enforcement, data-backed accountability, and passenger trust, we’re pushing towards smarter, greener, and more equitable cities.
