Flippy

The problem Our project was inspired by the types of conversations we had with other people, online, at school, on apps like tinder, and just general conversation. We are high schoolers from Stevenson High School, Illinois and have noticed noticed that people didn’t really have a lot of in-depth conversations that would really lend to expanding their perspectives and broadening their views. The solution To solve this problem we created Flippy. Flippy is an interactive website designed to stimulate deep, thought provoking conversation between two individuals. After entering the website and logging in through google, a person is able to choose a question from a topic area that interests them. If they don’t find a topic that interests them, they are also able to submit a question and topic as a suggestion to add to the list of options. They will then be paired with someone else who shares the same interest in debating that question. They will each be given a card where they can write down their initial thoughts. After they have both completed their response, they are able to ‘flippy’ and see each other's initial stance, after which they are put into a private chat room where they can continue their conversation at length. During this conversation, they have access to resources via a sidebar, consisting of vetted articles that they can pull from during their discussion to help strengthen their statements. Once they are done with their discussion, they simply end the session and do another if they want to!
