Inspiration

Air travel can often feel exhausting, with passengers struggling to find flights that match their preferences and needs. We wanted to create a solution that not only simplifies flight planning but also makes it more convenient and personalized. Inspired by the growing demand for tailored travel experiences, we built FlightPath to optimize how passengers interact with airlines.

What it does

FlightPath offers:

  1. Personalized Flight Recommendations: Tailored suggestions based on user preferences, flight history, and real-time data to maximize potential revenue by incentivizing customers to return to the airline.
  2. Scalable Interface: Weather, flight class, trends of cancellations, and typical extents of overbooking, are some of the many ideas that our interface can incorporate with further access to resources. We also implemented a small-scale live learning model and know that the functionality of our product can be made more effective and efficient with later development of more advanced AI models.

What we learned

As beginner hackers, we struggled to get ideas to fly. Nonetheless, our efforts towards learning allowed us to produce a product that is both practical and scalable. We learned how to better communicate with each other, and we learned to accept our differing opinions. Of course, we also learned technical skills along the way as we built our product. Perhaps the greatest learning experience was learning that failing was okay and proved to be a great opportunity for growth.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Communication: As mentioned earlier, our communication had improved throughout the hackathon. Of course, this meant that there were struggles that hindered our productivity which we quickly came to resolve.
  2. Clustering Accuracy: Ensuring the k-means clustering algorithm provided meaningful and actionable insights proved challenging. Especially with limited representative data from what we could source, we sought to create data that resembled real customers as closely as possible, improving our results slightly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Product: We’re proud to have built a functional product from scratch that solves real-world problems, combining our creativity and technical skills to deliver a solution we truly believe in.
  2. Full-Stack Integration: Created an intuitive and visually appealing frontend for seamless user interaction, while also driving the functionality in the backend, such as navigation, data analysis, and more.
  3. Creativity: With certain technical issues we've encountered along the way, pooling our creativity together allowed us to overcome these challenges to create a finished product.

What's next for FlightPath

  1. Expand Data Utilization: Integrate more data sources (e.g., hotel bookings, car rentals, meteorology) for a greater comprehensive travel experience.
  2. Mobile App: Develop a mobile-friendly version of our product to make on-the-go personalized flight recommendations more accessible, additionally improving the customer and airline experience.
  3. AI-Powered Insights: Use more advanced AI techniques to provide even more accurate and personalized recommendations as more data can be inputted.
  4. User Feedback: Continuously gather and incorporate user feedback to improve the platform.
