Inspiration
We love paper airplanes and flight sims. Mini games are more common now, where the player is shrunk down and plays in the now larger world (think Honey, I Shrunk the Kids). With games like Supraland and Grounded, we felt that a flight simulator in a normal world would be an interesting project.
What it does
A flight simulator for paper airplanes. Allows the player to fly in and around furniture and around the center of the room.
How we built it
We used three.js, and we made the paper plane model in blender. HTML, CSS, and JavaScript were used to write the project.
Challenges we ran into
3D games without a games without a game engine are hard. Many of the elements we had to pull in (models and textures), and documentation on three.js is sparse to say the least.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got a running Three.js project with collision detection. We managed to pull in interesting models into the project and apply textures to the walls, floor, and ceiling.
What we learned
We learned about using webGL and Three.js.
What's next for Flight of Paper Plane
Hopefully we can add multi-player and animate the paper airplane to make it more responsive.
