Inspiration

Many organizations use Jira only at the team level, making it difficult to connect day-to-day work with strategic goals and cross-team initiatives. Inspired by the Flight Levels model, we wanted to close that gap and bring true multi-level visibility and alignment into Jira Cloud.

What it does

Flight Levels Suite connects Jira projects to strategic, coordination, and operational boards, allowing teams to easily move between levels and understand how their work aligns with larger goals. It provides clear visibility across teams and strategy, helping organizations break silos and deliver with purpose.

How we built it

We built the app using the RovoDev CLI and Atlassian’s modern cloud development framework. It integrates smoothly into Jira Software and Jira Work Management, offering a native and intuitive experience with efficient handling of project links and board navigation.

Challenges we ran into

Designing a seamless user experience inside Jira’s UI was complex. Ensuring compatibility across Jira Software and Business projects, and structuring data relationships between levels while keeping performance optimal, were key challenges.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a tool that brings the Flight Levels concept into Jira Cloud in a simple, practical way. Seeing users easily visualize strategic context while working in operational boards is a major achievement.

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of the Flight Levels methodology, Atlassian’s cloud architecture, and UX patterns for enterprise environments. We also learned how essential clarity and cross-team visibility are for strategic execution.

What's next for FLIGHT LEVELS SUITE

We plan to add visualization dashboards, OKR linking, dependency mapping, and advanced reporting. Our goal is to make Flight Levels Suite the easiest way to scale strategic alignment in Jira and support growing agile organizations everywhere.
