What it does

The app records the user's journey of managing their habits, medication, and symptoms through check-in. It also strives to provide motivation and support through a community tab that will connect them to other people diagnosed with lupus and with those who provide support.

We gamified Flight through a point system that will allow them to access discounts and free trials with partnering companies as an incentive to stay up-to-date with their medication and medical logs.

The app will also have 24 access to a doctor/nurse who will walk them through their lupus questions and symptoms to help them learn if they need medical attention.

How we built it

  • Our brainstorming process was conducted through Figjam. The research was primarily based on the data from the Lupus Foundation of America, which gave us an understanding of the challenges people diagnosed with lupus face.

  • We built the wireframes and prototype using Figma. We aimed to minimize clicks/taps on buttons to a maximum of three for them to be accessible and primarily relied on the scrolling features. We developed a dimmed color palette to help reduce photosensitivity issues.

Challenges we ran into

  • During the wireframing stage, our user flow required adaptation to ensure we accurately flow through each function.

  • Thinking through the details and ensuring we meet accessibility and usability system guidelines

  • Needed to revise the user flow and create a separate page for logging symptoms

  • Due to time constraints, we were unable to provide a Dark and Light Mode for the app

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We are proud to have developed our first accessible app, which taught us a deeper understanding of UX principles

  • Maintaining our focus on producing a quality prototype that caters to the needs of our users

What we learned

  • We learned the correct process to research and develop an application.

  • We allowed ourselves to learn from each other and gain insights into UI/UX terms, research methods, and design feature elements on Figma.

What's Next for Flight

  • To further develop Flight, we must implement usability testing to ensure it is functional for someone who has accessibility difficulties due to lupus symptoms.

  • To benefit the community features, we would like to partner with both local and big companies to collaborate on the discounts and free trials .

  • Marketing campaigns for the app will need to be conducted in order to continue improving the functions and community features.
