Inspiration
We were inspired by the struggles many face in staying motivated and consistent with their fitness journeys. Common issues like unclear goals, boredom from mundane routines, fear of injuries, and frustration over slow progress often discourage people. By merging the world of gaming with fitness, we aimed to create an engaging solution that motivates users to stay active and enjoy their fitness journey.
What it does
FlexQuest is an RPG-themed fitness tracker that helps users log their calories, weight, and workouts while leveling up their virtual character. The app includes:
- RPG Gamification: Users earn XP to enhance player stats like Strength, Dexterity, and Arcane.
- Progress Tracking: Visualize improvements over time with progress bars.
- Personalized AI Support: Get health insights, fitness tips, and goal-setting assistance.
- Daily Motivation: Encourages regular exercise, accountability, and goal awareness through gamified rewards.
How we built it
- Front-end: Built using React and TailwindCSS to deliver a sleek, responsive user interface.
- Back-end: Powered by Supabase for managing user information and providing secure, scalable backend functionality.
- Mobile Integration: Leveraged Expo Go to transform the React + TypeScript web app into a cross-platform mobile application.
- Tracking Features: Developed calorie, weight, and workout tracking using TypeScript for type-safe, scalable development.
Challenges we ran into
- Backend Integration: Setting up Supabase to handle and fetch user data securely and efficiently required overcoming technical challenges.
- Mobile Compatibility: Ensuring the app looked and worked seamlessly across both web and mobile platforms took extensive debugging and optimization.
- Balancing Gamification: Designing an engaging yet meaningful RPG system that motivates users without overcomplicating the app was a unique challenge.
