Inspiration
It started with me. I was learning a new language and had no good way to save and review words. I built my own messy systems, but nothing worked well—so I decided to create the tool I needed.
What it does
Flashy lets you turn any new word into a flashcard in seconds. Each card comes with examples, related words, and cultural context to make it easier to remember. You can:
- Review with quizzes
- Practice over time -Explore the community feed to see what others are learning
How we built it
With Xcode and Cursor. No prior coding experience... just trial, error, and stubborn persistence until it worked.
Challenges we ran into
Debugging. Debugging. Debugging. Every fix felt like a small mountain conquered.
Accomplishments we’re proud of
- My very first paying user 🎉
- A LinkedIn post about Flashy that reached 300+ likes and caught attention from people at Flo, RevenueCat, and Duolingo
What we learned
- If you solve your own problem, you’ll probably solve it for others too.
- Staying true to that matters more than chasing trends.
What’s next for Flashy
A cleaner, more sophisticated design A/B testing paywalls to grow sustainably A new “dialogues” system so users can practice words in real conversations
