Inspiration

Our time at UBC really shaped us. In our first year, we found it tough to make friends since we were all focused on our studies and didn’t have much free time to hang out. But here’s the thing: we figured out a way to make friends while still studying.

What it does

This website is all about creating and sharing flashcards with the community to help you connect with others. Imagine you’re both trying to get the hang of math, and you realize you’re not alone! FlashMatch will spot you both and pair you up, and if you’re interested, you can send a request to get in touch.

How we built it

We were really inspired by Lovable! It made it so much easier to turn our idea into a reality. We poured our hearts into using Lovable to create the best website we could for this project.

Challenges we ran into

One thing to keep in mind about Vibe Coding is that it might seem like it’s super simple, but it’s actually an AI that doesn’t even catch when it messes up. For instance, we wanted to add a feature, but it ended up breaking something else. So, we had to go back and fix that. It was a bit of a puzzle!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We believe this website is a great resource for students who are finding it tough to keep up with their studies or make new friends. It can really help make things easier!

What we learned

We’ve discovered that Vibe Coding isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Honestly, we reckon it’s not as enjoyable to create an app on your own. Completing something independently is a truly impressive feat. However, relying solely on AI to write the entire thing can feel a bit monotonous.

What's next for FlashMatch

It would be great to add more question types, like multiple-choice and short-answer questions.

Also, we could make FlashMatch community-based, such as having FlashMatch specifically for UBC students or SFU students.
