Inspiration

FlashCase is a game that challenges memory by asking players to recreate a person's outfit after seeing it for just a few seconds. Memory games, especially ones involving colors, have always been enjoyable, so FlashCase was created as a fun way to test those skills.

What it does

FlashCase is a daily memory game. Each day, a new outfit is posted for players to memorize before recreating the headwear, top, bottom, shoes, and colors from memory. Scores are based on accuracy, speed, and the number of peeks used. Players can earn XP, share their results in the comments, and submit their own custom outfits as future community challenges. Every player-created Case can become a future daily puzzle for everyone to play.

How it was built

The app was built with Devvit Web using TypeScript. Hono is used for the backend API, Redis is used for application data storage, and Phaser 4 is used for frontend game rendering.

Challenges encountered

Using new tools such as Phaser. Making the game user friendly and adaptable to different screens.

Accomplishments

A complete playable game was created from an initial idea, including automated daily Reddit posts and support for player-created challenges.

What was learned

An end-to-end game was developed on Reddit using Devvit, Phaser, Hono, and Redis.

What's next for FlashCase

Player feedback will be collected and used to improve the game. Future updates may include a leaderboard, a streaks system, more outfit variety, themed challenges, background recreation, multiple difficulty modes with different time limits and levels of complexity.
