🌌 ## Flash & Fear Lost in the forest. Only darkness around you. Your only tool? An old camera that lights the way for a split second with every flash. Each flash shows the path ahead—sometimes it’s safe, sometimes it’s terrifying. Can you find the way out before fear takes over?

🎯 Inspiration We wanted to make a horror game that feels scary but fun—something teens would play together, share clips of, and dare their friends to try. Inspired by viral jump-scare moments and escape games, we created a mechanic where the camera flash is the only way to survive.

👻 What it does Flash & Fear is a VR escape game built in Horizon Worlds.

  • Players walk through a dark, haunted forest.
  • The only light comes from their camera flash.
  • Each flash reveals the path ahead—or a something horryfing.
  • The goal: find the exit and survive the scare.
Playable on VR, mobile, and PC.

🛠️ How we built it

  • Built in Horizon Worlds with a team of 3, all first-time users.
  • Used AI tools to speed up asset creation and scripting.
  • Designed the camera flash mechanic so players reveal only pieces of the world at a time.
  • Created a scary forest environment with sounds, atmosphere, and hidden surprises.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

  • Keeping the balance between scary and fun so it’s thrilling and emotional.
  • Learning Horizon Worlds and Typescript on the fly without prior experience.
  • Restarting the project multiple times because of bugs with GenAI-assisted tool.
  • Collaborating real time on the same project.

🏆 Accomplishments that we are proud of

  • Built a playable immersive game in 24 hours that is pumping up adrenaline.
  • Designed a flashing camera mechanic that creates suspense and surprise.
  • Created a scary forest environment that feels immersive.
  • Made something that is fun to watch, fun to play, and perfect for sharing viral clips.

📚What we learned

  • How to work inside Horizon Worlds as first-timers.
  • The importance of team collaboration and adapting fast.
  • How to use AI to support rapid prototyping (and how to fix when it breaks).
  • That creating suspense with light and sound can be just as powerful as detailed graphics.

🎯 Target Group

  • Players 15+ who love spooky fun, jump scares, and daring their friends.
  • Perfect for teens who enjoy sharing scary game clips and viral challenges.

📱 Future Potential Flash & Fear can easily expand into:

  • Multiplayer mode: explore the map together and survive as a group.
  • New maps: abandoned hospital, haunted school, underground tunnels.
  • Collectibles & leaderboards: camera batteries, fastest escapes

Tagline: “One flash away from freedom—or fear.”
