Inspiration

When we heard the prompt about civic participation, one of the questions that we asked each other first was "What does civic participation mean?". That gave us the realization that it's hard for people to participate in civic activities if they lack knowledge about it. So in our opinion, the first step of civic participation is to learn about it, what are the different options, and how a person can participate. So we decided to create a quiz game app that can help people learn as well as engage them to keep learning. We also got inspiration from the game Flappy Bird.

What it does

Flappy Volunteer is a game, in which you will play as a volunteer that is on a journey to obtain civic knowledge. There will be several obstacles on the road so your mission is to jump through those obstacles and move forward. After passing through several obstacles, you will have a chance to answer some questions about civic participation. If you answer the questions right, you will be able to unlock some unique characters that can be used for your future runs.

How we built it

We coded the game using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We created the graphics from scratch using the design software Affinity Design.

Challenges we ran into

This is the first time any of us code a game using HTML, CSS, and Javascript but we think that is a good opportunity for us to have the motivation to learn. We had to spend a lot of time designing characters and graphics because we wanted our characters to be original.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our base graphics were completed on time to integrate into our codes. The game is functioning even though there are many features that we still can’t implement in this version.

What we learned

• We learned how to code an interactive game using HTML, CSS, and Javascript
• We also learned how to design game characters, backgrounds, and obstacles.

What's next for Flappy Volunteer

We intend to add other functions like the quiz pop-up box, the scoring display, the character store, animate characters, etc Add a list of characters to collect Develop the back end of the game
