Inspiration
My wife and I built Flan because we wanted a better way to actually see where our money is going - not just look backward at what we spent, but understand where we're headed.
What it does
It’s a budgeting and financial projection app that lets you plan out your cash flow, see how big purchases and life events could affect your finances, and actually visualize your financial future. Most products in the market today just feel like they're judging your past and criticizing your spending..
How we built it
We started the build on web using React Native so we'd be able to easily expand cross-platform to iOS and Android. Flan was published to the Apple App Store this week, right in time for Shipaton!
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we faced was drawing a line in the sand of feature sets - though we both understand how important it is to get real, tangible UI/UX feedback, that doesn't make it any less difficult to wrap the MVP and stop chasing shiny new ideas.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are most proud that we ideated, designed, and built the project together. We created an LLC to act as an umbrella for future financial products too, so stay tuned!
What we learned
We learned that starting a business is not as easy as it may seem, and that the marketing stage is much more difficult AND much more important than the building stage. There are many trials and tribulations still on the horizon for Flan.
