Inspiration
Forest-fringe communities face constant risk from night-time wildlife intrusions. Traditional methods like fire, burning tyres, or crackers often cause forest fires, pollution, injuries, and panic. We wanted to build a safer, fire-free protective device that combines creativity, engineering, and eco-safety. Our inspiration came from imagining: “Can we recreate the power of fire… without using fire?” This challenge drove us to engineer a smart flame-effect torch that protects people while respecting wildlife and nature.
What It Does
FlameLite Guardian is a portable, fireless defensive torch that produces: • Ultra-bright red LED + laser flame visuals • Blower-driven silk cloth movement that mimics rising flames • Wildlife-safe deterrent sound signals • Wide-angle light reflection for long-distance visibility Wild animals naturally avoid flame-like visuals and unexpected sound patterns. Our device recreates this effect without heat, smoke, or danger, making it safe for: ✔ Villagers ✔ Farmers ✔ Forest watchers ✔ Night-shift workers near forests ✔ Students walking to school through rural paths It is an emergency safety device, instantly usable when an animal is spotted.
How We Built It
Using the circuit design we developed , we engineered a simple, reliable flame-simulation system:
- Light System • Laser module for sharp flame highlights • Red LED array for core glow
- Motion Simulation • A blower fan pushes air upward • Silk cloth strips rise and move like real flames
- Reflective Chamber • A cylindrical reflector amplifies brightness and spreads light
- Audio Unit • A USB sound module • A compact speaker playing eco-safe deterrent tones
- Power System • 12V rechargeable battery • Regulator for stable power • AC adapter for charging All components are assembled in a portable, impact-resistant casing.
Challenges We Ran Into
• Creating realistic flame visuals without using fire • Designing airflow strong enough to lift silk cloth continuously • Balancing laser + LED brightness for animal visibility but human safety • Making the system lightweight, low-cost, and durable • Testing different sound patterns that do not harm wildlife
Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of
• Built a fully working fireless flame device • Provided a safe alternative to crackers, fire, and electric fencing • Reduced environmental risk and supported forest-fire prevention • Designed a community-friendly safety tool usable by children, elders, and farmers • Strong alignment with UN SDG 3, 11, 13, 15 • Created a prototype that can be scaled into a real product
What We Learned
• Hardware innovation must balance technology + ethics • Safety engineering matters as much as functionality • Wildlife behavior can be influenced using light + motion + sound • Community feedback improves design reliability • Real-world problems need simple, affordable solutions
What's Next for FlameLite Guardian
- Smart Detection System We plan to add: • PIR motion sensor • Light sensor • Microcontroller-based auto-activation
- Mobile App Dashboard Live alerts when wildlife is detected.
- AI Flame Optimization Algorithms to auto-adjust brightness, sound, and motion based on species.
- Community Deployment Model Setting up shared devices along forest borders like: • First-aid kits • Fire extinguishers • Street safety lights
- Future Startup Potential FlameLite Guardian can grow into: • A smart safety device company • A wildlife conflict technology startup • A low-cost protective hardware brand built by students
