Inspiration

Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, Grindr, so many apps to choose from all trying to do the same thing. Introducing Fizzle: an app to find the exact opposite: a rival! Find someone that you want to spend the rest of your life annoying and playing friendly pranks (or not so friendly pranks) with, based on a simple quiz that we have developed measuring how evil of a person you truly are. Simple, clean UI & an easy to interact with interface - this site has something for everyone!

We built this app with a CSS, HTML, PHP, and JS front end with Python's Django framework as a back end.

Challenges

This is the first time that we have ever built a website from scratch, and we faced hours upon hours of stressful debugging. There were so many different packages to navigate, models that we didn't understand, and a SQLlite background that refused to work with us no matter how we tried. However, this is our first hackathon, and we wouldn't let such minor things bring us down. We worked continuously throughout the night without sleeping, taking breaks to refresh our brains, and dividing tasks efficiently so that not everyone was stuck on the same issue at once. We are proud of the product that we have built, even if there are some small misshaps, and are eager to present our site to the public.

Takeaways

While this app is obviously a joke, we do hope that the concept of this app seriously brings into consideration the idea of having an eternal rival, think Naruto-Sasuke style. Perhaps having someone to motivate you at all times, even if they can be annoying, can be a driving factor towards self-improvement.

We plan on improving the matching algorithm as well as adding more quiz questions.

I worked on building the initial front-end of the project, as well as with the SQL backend. Like Ji Hoon said, we faced a lot of challenges with Django, but we pulled through in the end and we are all happy with the result.

I worked on the back end with the analysis of the questionnaire as well as polishing the front end of the website. It was a challenging project since Django was not my strong suit, but it was a great learning experience.

I worked on the front end of our web application using Django, a Python based web framework. I worked on getting the website's questionnaire and user authorization to work as well as the overall look of the site. It was my first time using Django and doing front end web development. It was really challenging figuring out how everything worked for the first time, but I feel like I learned a lot.
