Inspiration
I saw here where i'm located, how difficult it can to find reliable handyman for every tasks, whether its's getting car fixed, fixing a leaking pipe, repairing an electrical fault, or simply getting your house clean. I am inspired to create a platform that makes it easy and fast to connect with trusted professionals.
What it does
FixMate is a mobile application that connects users with verified handyman and skilled professionals around them. Users can login, browse different categories like mechanic, plumbing, cleaning, electrical repairs, and more, and instantly find service providers in their area. The app allows professionals to create profiles, so users can view ratings, specialties, and availability before booking.
How we built it
We built FixMate using React Native and Expo for cross-platform mobile development, ensuring the app works seamlessly on both Android and IOS devices. Ui components were built using React Native's elemnts and custom styles to ensure clean, intuitive user experience. We collaborated using GitHub for version and Figma for design planning.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we faced included managing user location data efficiently to match them with nearby handymen, ensuring smooth UI responsiveness across the devices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
we are proud of building a fully functional MVP that allows users to sign up, explore services, and view nearby professionals.
What we learned
This project gave us hands on experience in building a real-world, location aware mobile app from scratch. We learned how to manage app state effectively and work collaboratively using Git and Github. We also deepened our understanding of user-centered design and mobile responsiveness.
What's next for Fixmate
We plan to introduce in-app booking and payment features, allowing users to hire and pay professionals directly from the app. We'll also implement a review and rating system to help users make informed choices.
