Inspiration

We realized a simple problem everyone faces: getting your home fixed shouldn’t be a headache. There are tons of service providers out there, but finding the right one is slow and frustrating. We wanted to make it easy, fast, and reliable — a one-stop solution that puts home repairs at your fingertips.

What it does

How we built it

We started with a simple problem: finding reliable home repair services is frustrating and fragmented. Our goal was to create a solution that is easy to use and intuitive, inspired by popular apps like Uber and DoorDash. The platform has a user-friendly interface with two portals — one for customers and one for service providers. We built the backend using Node.js, the frontend with React, and PostgreSQL for the database.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was managing the different states of service requests — from posted, to in progress, to completed — and keeping the portal updated in real time. Integrating a secure payment system was another challenge we’re still refining. Overall, coordinating all these moving parts while keeping the interface simple was difficult, but it gave us valuable insights.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built a functional prototype in a short time, giving a clear idea of how the product works and how easy it is to use. We also defined revenue streams and a growth strategy, including commissions, marketing opportunities for service providers, and potential collaborations with brands like Home Depot and IKEA. The platform is designed to scale easily — providers and customers can sign up independently, and the system functions like Uber, running itself while we focus on growth.

What we learned

We learned that solutions don’t need to be complicated. By focusing on a real, everyday problem, we were able to build a practical and scalable product quickly. A one-stop platform for home maintenance services can make a real difference, and rapid prototyping helped us understand the user experience and how the platform can function in the real world. Most importantly, simplicity, usability, and trust are key to creating a product people will rely on.

What's next for FixMate

FixMate is almost ready to launch! Next, we’ll add a secure payment system and fine-tune the platform. Once live, it will function like Uber — customers book, service providers sign up, and the system runs itself. From there, it’s all about marketing and growth. There are endless opportunities to scale: collaborating with big brands like Home Depot or IKEA, offering product promotions, and expanding services. The platform is ready, and the potential is huge!
