InspirationWorking in property maintenance, I’ve seen how often small problems turn into expensive repairs because people don’t know what they’re dealing with. Many tenants and homeowners either ignore issues or spend unnecessary money on service calls. I wanted to build something that gives instant guidance so people can act faster and smarter.
What it doesFixIt AI allows users to upload a photo or describe a property issue and instantly receive:
A likely diagnosis
Estimated repair cost ranges
Step-by-step fix instructions
Urgency level (low, medium, emergency)
It helps users understand problems before they get worse.
How we built it The app was built using a simple web interface and integrated with AI to analyze user input. Replit was used to quickly prototype and deploy the application, while OpenAI handles the logic behind diagnosing issues and generating repair guidance.
Challenges we ran into One of the main challenges was keeping the responses practical and realistic instead of overly generic. Another challenge was making the interface simple enough for non-technical users while still providing useful detail.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We created a working AI-powered tool that solves a real-world problem. The app is simple, accessible, and provides immediate value to users without requiring technical knowledge.
What we learned We learned how quickly AI can be used to build useful tools when focused on real-world problems. We also learned the importance of clarity in user input and response formatting.
