Inspiration

While learning Python and Django, I encountered errors that were difficult to understand. I wanted to build a tool that helps beginners investigate an error, apply a safe fix, and learn why it happened.

What it does

FixFlow-AI is a local, rule-guided debugging assistant. Users paste a Python traceback and provide context. The app asks diagnostic questions and offers guidance for supported Django environment problems and simple spelling, colon, and indentation errors.

It does not run submitted code or commands, and it does not use an external AI service. Users run the suggested commands themselves and verify the results.

How I built it

I built the application with Python, Django, HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. The diagnostic flow uses defined rules and user-provided evidence. Temporary browser session storage helps recover progress after a refresh.

Challenges I faced

One challenge was distinguishing a missing package from an interpreter mismatch. Django can already be installed in the intended virtual environment while the failing command uses another interpreter.

Another challenge was supporting PowerShell environments where activation is blocked. The app provides a direct-interpreter fallback without changing execution policy.

Accomplishments

I completed and tested a Django environment diagnosis from the original error to a verified fix. The demonstration confirms Django 5.2.17 is available in the intended environment and that the project check reports no issues.

I also published the sanitized source code on GitHub with an MIT license.

What I learned

I learned that Python packages belong to a specific interpreter and that commands must be run from the correct project folder. I also learned to check evidence before suggesting a change and to verify a fix before reporting success.

What's next

I would like to expand the supported error patterns, improve the explanations, and test the tool with more beginners. The current version remains a focused local demonstration with clear limits.
