Inspiration

FIXR was inspired from those times you really need help with something but don't really know where to call or who to reach out to; Think your car suddenly stopped running in the out of nowhere, and you are not confident to just call up a mechanic you are seeing for the first time.

What it does

It let the user describe their problems, and match them with the professional who could help them soon.

Features

  • Diverse selection of fixers to choose from
  • Matches user with a fixer that is currently available
  • User able to enter their address and details regarding their case (mock up)
  • Sign in/sign out feature
  • Mock up of live map + ETA time
  • Rating and review feature (1-5 stars)

How we built it

We created a dumb-downed version of Uber but for emergency needs with focus on showing the UX experience for our first demo. We built it using Django and React with the focus on the user side.

Challenges we ran into

All of our members have zero experience making a proper application, so we could say the entire process was challenging, especially creating API and actually parsing data through them for our frontend and backend.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our group learned and familiarized the use of git commands, frontend development through ReactNative, and DjangoDB. We also learned how to integrate backend into frontend and make everything work well together.

What we learned

The harsh reality of web development.

BUT

We learned the importance of great teamwork and communication. It really showed that with great perseverance, especially with a group of friends, we were able to solve problems that felt impossible to solve at first glance.

What's next for FIXR

Hopefully we'll get to finish all the planned features that we had to cut down. We want to explore validating our ideas and hopefully applying for a start-ups incubating program down the line.
