Inspiration

We wanted to make our city a better place by creating a tool that empowers people to report issues that need attention. By enabling residents to track problems and notify local authorities, we aim to streamline the process of improving public spaces. We wanted to gamify the process of tracking repairs so that citizens feel more excited making a good impact on their own cities!

What it does

FIX CITY is a mobile app that helps citizens report and track issues in their community, from small repairs like broken streetlights and benches to larger concerns like potholes. Users can easily mark issues on a map, add descriptions, and submit them for review. Local representatives and city maintenance teams can view reported issues in real-time, prioritize repairs, and address problems that have the greatest impact on the community.

How we built it

We built FIX CITY using Flutter, and Flutter Map AI for interactive mapping capabilities that make it easy to log and visualize reported issues. We also used Figma for the design process.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenges included learning Flutter and Flutter Map AI, which were new to us. We all have never used flutter before it was difficult learning all the new syntax and structure of the whole framework. It was also a difficult process because downloading flutter and android studio took upwards of 3.5 hours because of the large file sizes and debugging. Overall, we had less time to code because of that.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a platform that can help communities by streamlining the reporting process for local issues. It’s exciting to think about the potential impact FIX CITY could have, helping cities prioritize and address the needs of their residents. We’re also proud of having integrated Flutter Map AI into our app, creating a dynamic map interface.

What we learned

We learned a lot about flutter and mobile app development in a short period of time. All it takes is persistence and some time!
