Inspiration
Working in IT and being from a large family I am the defacto help desk for all things electronic. I see a lot of my elder relatives struggling to keep up with their personal electronic devices and appliances in a growing digital world and want to help them maintain their independence.
What it does
A generative AI chatbot that let's user upload pictures of (or manually enter) their appliances and personal electronics model numbers and then allows them to chat with the owners manuals to perform simple tasks for things like "how do I set the time on my microwave", "how do I program my tv remote control" or "how do I connect my garage door opener to my wifi".
How we built it
With AWS PartyRock
Challenges we ran into
Image uploading prompt with PartyRock and image recognition library are a bit lacking at the moment!

** Smart thermostat model number (manual entry)

Accomplishments that we're proud of
With a growing population of aging baby boomers, who may not be so technically savvy, I feel this app helps them maintain their independence in a rapidly changing technological world and saves on paper waste of printed/reprinted owners manuals.
What we learned
Generative AI is for everyone young and old!
What's next for Fix-ation
Making it better! Especially with a strong image recognition library. The repair video area needs some work as well. The intent of that area is to bring up common repair videos found on the web for the specific device. I would also like to eventually be able to link to where to order replacement parts as well.
