Inspiration
We got inspired because all of our team members have experienced super boredom during the transit times, especially when the times are longer and we cannot leave the airport
What it does
Our game inspires these bored air travelers to move around in the airport to pickup virtual hitchhikers. The hitchikers are placed in airport positions where are interesting things to do. The concept is that user picks up a hitchhiker which has to reach a destination not equal to theirs. The user picks him and drops at another airport wherever he reaches his transit/destination. From their some other user has to pick him up. The HitchHiker needs to reach its destination city within a specific time and if successful, all the users who helped him gets loyalty reward points from Finnair.
How I built it
The backend is developed using JavaEE and a REST API to communicate with different front end platforms. Our backend REST-API also communicates with various different external API's like Finnair, Sabre and SkyScanner.
Challenges I ran into
JAVA is surely not something one should use during a hackathon is a lesson well learnt. Till the point we realised, it was too late to go back. We would had been able to do much more if we would had used Nodejs or Python instead
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The idea, design of the prototype, the business potential.
What I learned
Team management, project and time management
What's next for FivePoint5
Finnair can partner with airport shops, where the virtual hitchhikers can be collected and this way the shops can market their brand through Finnair.
