Empowering Women in Tech : Shaping FIU's Story with AI

Inspiration

My teammates and I came across Break Through Tech's sponsor challenge and seeing that only 24% women are part FIU's Knight Foundation of Computing and Information Sciences ignited a passion in us to create a resourceful platform which acts as an inspiring tool for more women to join tech.

What it does

Our project begins with a quiz which helps in finding a potential career in tech based on user's interests. Following to that, various FIU campus resources and student organizations are highlighted that can support them in their career journey. Further, we gathered some women in tech experiences at FIU to foster a sense of belonging and inspire more women to be part of the tech community.

Challenges we ran into

Our major challenge was the limited time we had to integrate AI functionalities into the platform. Due to that, we had to continuously refine our vision to ensure that it was feasible. As our main goal was to build a resourceful narrative platform, we ended up prioritizing the content of our platform and were able to include AI in not more than two aspects.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

However, we're glad to have joined a movement that inspires and provides opportunities for women to shine in the tech world. Along with this, we take pride in our teaming process where ideas and perspectives flowed freely along with set of unique technical skills which made our hackathon journey not only productive but also fulfilling.

What we learned

Whether it was re-evaluating our project scope or troubleshooting technical issues, staying flexible helped us keep moving forward.

What's next for FIU Women Tech Connect

We're going to further build this project by integrating AI with our quiz that develops the questions as user attempts the quiz to provide accurate results on potential careers our user's interests matches the most with.
