Inspiration
Our inspiration for creating FitRoutes was to simplify the user's life by combining several health-related features into a single web app. We noticed that many people use separate apps to access different health-related functions, such as exercise tracking, weather updates, meal planning, and exploring local points of interest. We wanted to create a single platform that offers all of these features, making it easier for users to take control of their health.
What it does
FitRoutes is an all-in-one health web app that provides users with a range of health-related functions. Users can choose from a variety of exercise options, plan their daily meals, check the current weather at their device's location, and discover local points of interest to create personalized routes. The app also includes a simple login page to keep users' information secure.
How we built it
We built FitRoutes using a combination of modern web development tools and technologies. We used React.js for the frontend, Node.js for the backend, and plan to use MongoDB for the database. We used third-party APIs to access weather information, maps, and points of interest. We integrated these technologies and APIs to provide users with seamless functionality.
Challenges we ran into
As we were unfamiliar with the technologies used to build FitRoutes, we faced several challenges along the way. One of the biggest challenges was learning how to connect the front-end and back-end of the app, which required us to learn new programming languages and techniques.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the challenges we faced, we are proud of what we have accomplished with FitRoutes. We managed to create a functioning web app with several working parts, including exercise selection, route planning, meal planning, weather updates, and user authentication. We also learned a lot about React, and Node.js along the way, which will help us to improve our skills and knowledge in the future.
What we learned
Through building FitRoutes, we learned a great deal about web development and software engineering. We learned how to connect the front-end and back-end of a web application, how to use APIs to access external data sources, and how to implement data encryption and access control measures to protect user data. We also learned how to work collaboratively on a software project, sharing knowledge and expertise to create a cohesive and functional app.
What's next for FitRoutes
Moving forward, we plan to continue refining and improving FitRoutes. This will involve adding new features and functionality, such as user profiles and social sharing, as well as improving the app's aesthetics and usability. We also plan to optimize the app's performance, by streamlining code and improving data management, to ensure that it remains fast and responsive for users. Ultimately, we hope that FitRoutes will become a go-to app for health and wellness enthusiasts, providing them with a convenient and effective way to stay healthy and active.
