Inspiration

The inspiration for FitRhythm is based on our team's desire for an exercise app that motivates them.

What it does

When you listen to music, FitRhythm will change the volume of the music based on the intensity of your workout. Choose a volume that you want your music to be, and it will stay that way if your exercise remains at an constant intensity. Otherwise, your music will become quieter until you exercise more intensely.

How we built it

We used Android Studio to build an Android application from Java. The graphics were designed in Photoshop.

Challenges we ran into

At first, we were not sure whether to use an accelerometer or GPS to measure intensity of workout. However, we decided to use the accelerometer because it saves battery, and tracks relative movement rather than displacement.

We also hope to make an app that would allow the user to choose their songs within the app, but time constraints did not allow us to do so.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

When we accessed accelerometer data. When the application worked!

What we learned

Android Studio, testing with Android hardware, manipulating accelerometers, using Android packages, better GitHub collaboration
