Inspiration- We noticed a big problem that had a simple solution. Physical inactivity in the US adult population leads to increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and obesity which costs taxpayers about 117 Billion dollars annually. The CDC recommends 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week to counter this, but with today's sedentary lifestyle, it is difficult to find the time and motivation. Fitquest, our gamified app makes exercise fun, connects you with friends and incorporates more activity into your daily routine. Join fun challenges and collect rewards along the way while improving your social and mental wellbeing- its a one stop shop for fitness.
What it does
It turns your daily workouts and physical activities into games where you can collect coins along the way as you complete challenges in fun scenarios like the jungle, castle or the beach! Connect with your friends and take walks together, monitor your overall health and get customized workout targets based on your health metrics, schedule and performance.
How we built it
We built it on web app using HTML Javascript and Nodejs, Niantic lightship, Python and Unity and AR.
Challenges we ran into
As we made the app in a hackathon, we had very little time to incorporate all features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the game we created! (It is pretty addictive- we couldn't stop playing) We are also proud of the work that our app is going to be doing in keeping 1000s of people healthy and incorporate some fun into their lives.
What we learned
We learned a lot of new technologies! But we also learned time management, collaboration, problem identification and much more
What's next for FitQuest(Water)
We want to incorporate a health monitor that uses federated machine learning to access your risk of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases and personalizes workout based on that. We also have a business model in mind where companies sponsor discount for points earned in the game in exchange for advertising and CSR.
