Inspiration

Our inspiration stemmed from our timeless and desperate need for someone, or something to help us in deciding our outfits. Suey, with the closet that can last her decades yet has "nothing to wear", and Nina, left with seemingly not an ounce of an idea nor energy to plan or store outfits in her head—both of us young and needy students yearned for a solution. Suey thought back to the videos she'd seen on tiktok of people creating physical books that had cut-out and printed images of their clothes in order to land on an outfit. She's sure the idea came from an older TV show, but her mind forgets. Not wanting her parents to fume over the amount of coloured ink she'd have to use, she decided that this hackathon was the perfect time to solve this problem.

What it does

Fitpick allows users to take pictures of individual clothing articles categorized into tops, bottoms, shoes and have a random generator pair these pieces together to create an awe striking outfit (well, if it's bad, just keep hitting generate until you get a good one).

How we built it

We used html, css, and javascript. Then we used flask and python. We used the Filestack API to handle the uploading and storing of images and sqlite to store information about the uploaded images. Suey used Canva and other tools to make the website look appealing to the eye.

Challenges we ran into

Everything. Being not-the-most-experienced coders, creating fitpick took so much effort and will to not just turn away. Whether it was with spacing the headers so that they weren’t so far away from each other, or trying to make the upload folder not pop up on the screen automatically, we had our moments. Many, many moments.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

First and foremost, we are proud of even having a finished product! We are also very pleased with how we completed this with little to no experience with many of the applications we used. Our project also solves a problem that many people including ourselves have, so go us!

What we learned

We approached and used applications that we had little to no experience with, so we learned how to use those, requiring tons of patience. Even for the languages we were familiar with, we finished this project with more knowledge than we started with. Besides all the technicalities, we as a team also learned how to persevere through tough times. Extremely tough times.

What's next for fitpick

There is nothing concrete in our future plans for fitpick, but we are not closed to the idea of improving and updating it! After taking a look at the general response that fitpick gets, we will decide what to do with it then :).
