Inspiration
As a fitness enthusiast frustrated by disjointed gym management tools—scattered class sign-ups, hard-to-access membership info, and clunky trainer booking—I set out to build a platform that puts everything a gym member needs in one place. I wanted it to feel energetic, modern, and true to the fitness culture I know, with a design that’s as dynamic as a workout itself.
What it does
Gym & Studio Manager is an all-in-one web platform for fitness facilities: members browse/ book group classes, manage membership plans (upgrade, freeze, track billing), book 1:1 personal training, check in via QR code, reserve equipment, and view real-time crowd/cleanliness status—all through a sleek, responsive interface.
How we built it
I built it entirely with front-end technologies: HTML5 for structure, CSS3 (with Tailwind) for the navy/teal fitness-focused design system, and vanilla JavaScript for interactivity. I used Intersection Observer for scroll animations (stats counting up, section fade-ins), CSS keyframes for hero/button animations, and SVG/canvas for lightweight background effects (no external images). Every component was built mobile-first, with hover states and animations optimized for smooth performance.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was balancing visual flair (animations, gradients, hover effects) with performance—too many animations can slow load times. I also had to ensure animations respect prefers-reduced-motion for accessibility, and make the responsive grid work seamlessly across desktop/tablet/mobile without breaking card hover effects or layout.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a platform that’s both visually striking (full-viewport hero, animated stats, gradient treatments) and highly functional—every button/modal has intentional feedback (success animations, hover glows) that makes the experience feel premium. I’m especially proud of the accessibility focus: all animations are optional, and the color contrast meets fitness industry standards for readability.
What we learned
I deepened my understanding of performance optimization for front-end animations, and how to build a cohesive design system that aligns with fitness brand aesthetics. I also learned the importance of user-centric design—prioritizing the core actions (class booking, membership management) to keep the interface intuitive, not cluttered.
What's next for this project
Next, I want to add a progress-tracking dashboard for members (log workouts, track goals), integrate a simple calendar sync for booked classes/training, and add a trainer-facing view to manage their schedules. I also plan to refine the equipment reservation system to include real-time availability (powered by mock data for now).
