Inspiration
We wanted to do something with fitness. 2 of the 4 of us work out pretty consistently. The other 2 aren't the most active, and need to find good ways to motivate ourselves to work out. We also all love games.
What it does
It accesses the Apple Fitness app workouts, and counts how many of each workout has been done. Depending on how many of 3 specific workouts are done, determines what stage the 3 frogs are at, and if they're still alive. If after 5 days there is no workout logged, the frog dies.
How we built it
We used lots of ChatGPT and Claude 3.5 to help us write and debug our swift code. Using tools like swift for windows and Xcode, we were able to get a working proof of concept.
Challenges we ran into
We were trying to find ways to store the assets in a database, but were unable to fetch the info from it. We also struggled to test the code when only one of us had a MacOS computer. Despite these challenges, each of us did as much as we could to contribute to the project to the best of our ability.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to get the project to a point where it's functional and looks really good. We all really enjoyed spending time together, and the amount that we learned about using new tools is invaluable.
What we learned
We learned that a simple idea can be the most powerful. We designed this so that no actual user input would be used, which minimized the bug possibilities by a significant amount. It's kind of incredible how much a simple idea can make a difference.
What's next for Fitness Frogs!
We want to continue to update this app with features like a widget for your home screen and an apple watch version.
