Inspiration

I read an article about how many young esports athletes encounter very serious fitness, health issues. Some even take early retirement. There's a lot of wear and tear from long gaming sessions. So i wanted to make a solution for this.

Fitness Frenzy gives these micro fitness tips, which take very less time and can be done at anytime! This will also help spread awareness about gamers' fitness.

What it does

Fitness Frenzy is a chrome extension, every time you open it, you get a new fitness tip and a short youtube tutorial video. The best part? These fitness tips are NOT BORING! They are in a language which gamers will love! Gamer lingo 💪. And it merges fitness with fun challenges.

example: "Took a sniper shot? Now blink your eyes 5 times, keep 'em fresh for the next kill!" We've all seen Twitch streamers do fun challenges on livestream. This is inspired from that and meant to augment it!

How we built it

I made this using basic HTML,CSS, JS. It's a chrome extension, when a new tab opens up, the default new tab gets replaced by Fitness Frenzy! It picks a fitness tip and a youtube link from an array and displays them in a card UI.

There's emphasis on less information. I don't want to do information overload as we all get confused when we get too many fitness tips, right?!

Challenges we ran into

Some OpenAI rate limit while I was using it. So, I had to do this without the API, added all the tips and youtube links within the javascript file itself.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I ditched another idea which i had almost completed to make this chrome extension in the last 12 hours of the hackathon. so it's not super complex, but i am happy with the quick turnaround. Ditched the old project (also for esports fitness) because I felt this would be more user-friendly, easy to use!

What we learned

During my research, I learnt a lot about type of injuries gamers can encounter. Will do more research for adding future features.

What's next for Fitness Frenzy

Lots of stuff to add in the feature to make this more engaging for casual gamers and athletes!

  • Pose estimation integration to verify workouts and give out points
  • integration with Twitch and other social media
  • see what challenges others are taking and so on...
