Inspiration

The journey began with a simple yet profound realization: fitness is a universal right, not a privilege. We realized how there are no apps on the market that cater to individuals of ALL abilities. Inspired by stories of individuals facing barriers to fitness due to physical disabilities, we set out to create inclusiFITy , an app designed to make fitness accessible to everyone. Our mission was clear: to empower users of all abilities with personalized workout plans that respect their unique needs and preferences.

What it does

inclusiFITy revolutionizes the way individuals with disabilities engage with fitness by offering customized workout plans that adapt to each user's specific needs and abilities. Through an intuitive interface, users can input their preferences, abilities, and goals, allowing inclusiFITy to generate accessible, effective, and enjoyable workout routines. From wheelchair-friendly exercises to adaptive strength training and flexibility workouts, inclusiFITy ensures that fitness is inclusive, empowering, and within reach for everyone.

How we built it

Our journey to build inclusiFITy began with an in-depth exploration into the diverse needs of individuals with disabilities. Recognizing the vast spectrum of abilities, we embarked on a mission to understand how physical activities can be adapted to each unique circumstance. This research phase was instrumental in developing a comprehensive questionnaire designed to capture a wide array of user preferences and physical capabilities.

The next step involved a meticulous categorization of exercises, each tagged with specific attributes like wheelchair-friendliness, targeted muscle groups, and required equipment. This classification system became the foundation of our adaptable workout plans, ensuring that every user receives a personalized fitness regimen.

To bring inclusiFITy to life, we crafted a series of Java classes that encapsulate the core functionalities of our app. Key among these were the UserProfile class for storing user preferences, the Exercise enum for managing exercise metadata, and the WorkoutPlanGenerator for dynamically creating personalized workout plans based on user input. Utilizing Java allowed us to leverage its object-oriented capabilities, ensuring a scalable and maintainable codebase.

Challenges we ran into

One of the primary challenges we faced was designing an intuitive yet comprehensive questionnaire that accurately captures user needs without being overly complex or intrusive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite these challenges, we are incredibly proud of what we achieved with inclusiFITty during the hackathon:

Developing a Working Prototype: Successfully creating a functional prototype that personalized workout plans for individuals with disabilities within the hackathon's limited timeframe was immensely rewarding.

Focus on Accessibility: We're particularly proud of developing a platform that genuinely prioritizes inclusivity and personalization in fitness. Crafting a solution that adapts to the individual, rather than requiring the individual to adapt to it, stands as a testament to our commitment to accessibility and empowerment. We are proud to have prioritized accessibility from the outset, incorporating features that make our app usable by a wide audience. This was a significant achievement given our initial lack of experience in this area.

Team Collaboration: Our team effectively collaborated under pressure, leveraging each member's strengths to contribute to the project's success. Overcoming the steep learning curve together, particularly in areas such as AI and accessibility, was a testament to our teamwork and dedication.

Positive Feedback: Receiving positive feedback from mock users validated our concept and effort, encouraging us to pursue further development beyond the hackathon.

What we learned

Throughout the development of inclusiFITy , we've gained profound insights into the importance of empathy-driven design. Learning to view accessibility not as an afterthought but as a fundamental design principle has been enlightening. Also, the hackathon taught us critical lessons in managing projects under tight deadlines, including effective teamwork, time management, and the agile development process.

What's next for inclusiFITy : Personal Paths to Wellness

Looking ahead, we're excited to expand inclusiFITy capabilities further. Plans include integrating with wearable technology to track physical activities and health metrics in real-time, enhancing our AI algorithms to offer even more personalized fitness recommendations, and exploring social features that allow users to connect and support each other on their wellness journeys. We would also like to include additional features such as a feedback system to personalize the workout even more as the user progress and even also add a reward and milestone system for motivation.

We're also committed to broadening our research and outreach to include more diverse abilities and fitness levels, ensuring inclusiFITy remains at the forefront of accessible wellness solutions.
