Inspiration
Finding the right fitness center nearby is often confusing — from gyms to yoga to martial arts. I wanted to create a simple way for people to discover verified fitness options with proper details about trainers, equipment, and contact info.
What it does
FitNear helps users explore nearby gyms and fitness centers with details such as trainers’ bios, available equipment, contact links, pictures along with discounted payment option. Users can also leave comments and feedback to help others make better choices.
How we built it
Frontend: React.js, TailwindCSS, React Router for navigation. Backend: Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB Atlas for storing data.
Other Tools: Cloudinary for image uploads, Render for deployment.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring dummy social media links didn’t point to real accounts. Making comments appear instantly without refreshing. Polishing the UI to have a clean, modern, Apple-style feel.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a full-stack fitness app in just a short timeframe. Learned how to integrate authentication, CRUD, and cloud storage. Designed a minimal yet user-friendly interface.
What we learned
Better understanding of React state management and API integration. How to deploy full-stack apps and manage environment variables. The importance of user experience and consistent design.
What's next for FitNear
Add real-time chat between users and trainers. Book Training sections . Expand categories to include more physical activities. Build a mobile app version for wider reach.
