Inspiration
The inspiration behind Fitmate stems from the growing importance of fitness and well-being, coupled with the shift towards virtual and hands-free interactions in the wake of the global pandemic. Recognizing the need for personalized and safe fitness solutions, especially as traditional fitness centers face challenges, we sought to create a virtual gym trainer harnessing the power of AI and computer vision technologies.
What it does
Fitmate is a revolutionary AI-powered gym trainer that provides personalized feedback in real-time during workouts. Utilizing advanced computer vision and machine learning algorithms, Fitmate tracks users' exercise poses and angles, offering guidance to ensure correct form and prevent injuries. Whether at home or in a private space, users can rely on Fitmate for tailored workout sessions and progress tracking.
How we built it
Fitmate was built using a combination of OpenCV, Mediapipe, and machine learning models for pose estimation. We developed a web-based application integrated with a pose estimation algorithm to analyze users' movements during exercises. The system captures video recordings, identifies key landmarks, and evaluates users' posture to deliver instant feedback on form and technique.
Challenges we ran into
Developing Fitmate presented several challenges, including fine-tuning pose estimation algorithms to accurately detect exercise poses in real-time. Integrating the system with a user-friendly interface while ensuring seamless interaction posed additional complexities. Overcoming technical hurdles and optimizing performance were paramount to delivering a robust and intuitive solution.
